Central Coast fighter Jamie Mullarkey has scored his first UFC win in devastating fashion, icing American rival Khama Worthy in just 46 seconds at UFC 260 in Las Vegas.
Working full-time as a plumber not so long ago, Mullarkey confirmed himself among the fresh new faces of Australia’s fight game via a stunning left hook.
Speaking prior to the fight, Mullarkey told The Daily Telegraph that, after dropping his first two Octagon appearances, he needed to beat lightweight rival Worthy in devastating fashion.
Which is exactly what he did.

“Mate, it feels unbelievable,” Mullarkey said afterwards. “We worked so hard for this fight. I’m just glad I finally got to showcase my skills.”
Asked if it helped erase the pain of his previous defeats, including a highly contentious decision loss against Frenchman Fares Ziam last October, he said: “It really does.
“It wasn’t meant to be last time but I’m just glad I had an opponent who wanted to come fight me this time.
“Khama’s game man. He brought the best out of me tonight.”
Asked about the finish, the Coastie gave praise to his coach and former MMA fighter Ross Pearson.
“That’s a shout out to Ross Pearson, my man back home,” he said of the finish. “Boxing on the inside, that’s his game all day long.
“When I hit him with the hook, it didn’t even feel hard enough. It never does.
“But I saw his eyes wobble, then I saw him go down ever so slowly.”
Elsewhere, Mullarkey also got a host of congratulatory messages on social media, including from Australia’s UFC featherweight champ Alex Volkanovski, who remains in Las Vegas quarantine after contracting COVID.
While the Wollongong striker had been slated to defend his gold strap on the same card, his COVID positive meant his title fight against Brian Ortega will be rescheduled for later in the year, potentially July.
Volkanovski trained extensively with Mullarkey in the lead up to UFC 260, with the latter revealing his game had gone to new levels since working alongside the Aussie champ.
