Tim Tszyu has questioned the punching power of rival Dennis Hogan, describing the fighting Irishman as both a blowfly and “tip and tap” fighter.

On the eve of his Steel City Showdown at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre, Tszyu has taken aim at a rival who, despite fighting for world titles in his two most recent bouts, still boasts a knockout ratio of just 22 per cent.

Tszyu, meanwhile, has kayoed 13 of 17 rivals on his undefeated run to stardom.

Only 24 hours after likening Hogan’s style to that of a blowfly – “always buzzing around” – Tszyu then doubled down at a Monday press conference when quizzed again about fighting the 36-year-old.

“I don’t make fights easy,” the Sydneysider said.

“I’m not here to tip and tap, run around and jab, throw a few overhands here and there”.

So Hogan doesn’t have the power to go with you?

“We’ll see,” he shrugged.

Dennis Hogan is a great fighter and I’m not being disrespectful.

“He trains, is trying to feed his family, I’ve got all respect for that.

“But this is my ring. You’re in my world and I’m not letting anyone out.”

Asked if he expected to finish the fight in explosive fashion, like he did last start against New Zealander Bowyn Morgan, Tszyu continued: “Of course”.

“Again, I’m not here to tip and tap,” he said.

“I’m here to do damage.

“I’ve been sparring big boys and they’re bringing the best out of me.

“They’re much bigger than me but I’m able to compete with their strength. So (for Hogan), it’s not going to finish well.”

Asked for a prediction of his own, Hogan said: “I really do think I can hurt Tim.

“And if the opportunity arises, I’ll go for it.

“But I’m going to make sure I’m winning every round very, very well. So if it goes to the end, I’ll be getting the decision.”
