Cuadro is a good fighter as well, having fought Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz, the new IBF Super Featherweight World Title holder, and took him the distance.

Wilson has just six pro fights under his belt, having won the Australian title in his third title and the World Youth Title in his fifth fight.

But despite the disparity in experience, Wilson was all over Cuadro, knocking him to the canvas in the third round.

The next time Cuadro was knocked down, he was asleep as a brutal left hand landed on his chin in the fifth round, handing Wilson the stunning victory.

“He is asleep and he is not getting up,” Fox Sports commentator Ben Damon said. “That is as a victory as you will see by a man in his sixth professional fight.

“That is a massive shot from Liam Wilson and Jesus Cuadro has not moved.

“The perfect left hook from Liam Wilson who has the boxing world at his feet and has just said to the entire super featherweight division ‘I am ready’.”

It was a long time Cuadro was left asleep.

In the main event, Jayde Mitchell, who is coming back from a broken neck two and a half years ago, lost a split decision against Istvan Szili.

In a tough fight, Mitchell came home strong but didn’t quite have enough.

He said there was plenty that went wrong in camp and that he felt like he let a lot of people down.

“There’s a bit of an issue going on in the family right now and I missed a fair bit of training for this one,” he said. “I’ve just learned the hardest lesson right now. I thought I was going to come in here and do it easy.

“I was just terrible tonight but I’d be lying if I was 50 per cent tonight.

“I felt like I was hitting as hard as my baby girl in there tonight, I think she was packing a bigger punch than me.”

It was the second loss of Mitchell’s 22 fight career.

Szili takes home the WBO Oriental Super Middle Title.
