Israel Adesanya’s gym buddy Nort Beauchamp promises to destroy Fenech protege Brock Jarvis

Jeff Fenech has warned his protege, Brock Jarvis, to be prepared for a war against Nort Beauchamp on April 23 as the Kiwi talks up doing a ‘demolition job’ on the rising Aussie star.

He trains alongside UFC champions Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovksi.

He’s fought George Kambosos, Kye McKenzie and Joel Brunker, holds his hands behind his back like Roy Jones Jr, and has never been knocked down in a fight.

And now, Kiwi boxer Nort Beauchamp has promised to derail the world title ambitions of Jeff Fenech’s protégé, Brock Jarvis.

“We’re ready to put a demolition job on Brock Jarvis and bring those belts back to New Zealand,” Beauchamp said.

“We’re taking this very seriously, I believe 100 per cent we have the capability to beat Jarvis.”

Beauchamp is the underrated scrapper who plans to produce one of the greatest trans-Tasman fight shocks when he takes on undefeated Jarvis in Canberra on April 23.

Under the tutelage of boxing and mixed martial arts coach Eugene Bareman – who has taken Adesanya and Volkanovksi to the top of the UFC – Beauchamp (18-3, 3KO) says Jarvis (18-0, 16KO) has no chance of being the first man to drop him.

“No, absolutely not, I’ve been in there with some big bangers such as Kambosos and Kye McKenzie, they all said the same thing, they had the challenge to knock me down and none of them have come close,” he said.

“I believe I’m up there with the best and here’s my opportunity to prove it.

“I’m based in Christchurch, but I’ve been based at City Kickboxing Gym since 2015, I fly up there up there for the second half of my camps.

“Israel and I are good mates, we share a few laughs, he’s a bit tall for me so I steer clear of him, but I do a lot of sparring against Alex Volkanovski, Kai Kara-France and Dan Hooker.

“They push me, they’re definitely crafty and experienced.”

Beauchamp narrowly lost in the amateurs to Kambosos – who fights for the unified lightweight championship soon – and defeated former Olympian Brunker in 2018.

“I fought George Kambosos, almost beat him as well, he got past me with fitness in that last round,” he said.

“I’ve fought Miles Zalewski (7-1, 5KO) as well, beat him in the amateurs, so I’ve been around a while, I’m tucked away in New Zealand, working hard and growing.

“I am a natural featherweight yet this is the first time I’m fighting at featherweight. I started late so I had to take every fight and opportunity available to me.

“A lot of boxers these days, their journey is like the Babysitters Club, mine has been like jungle; in there with big names and big hitters.”

It’s remarkable that across 51 bouts in the amateurs and pros, nobody has floored Beauchamp.

The 35-year-old father of four has a highlight reel of showboating defence, placing his hands behind his back, sticking out of chin, and showing Prince Naseem Hamed style head movement against hapless opponents.

“Defence is the key for me, I’ve never been stopped, never been dropped, I don’t want to be touched,” he said.

“If you have good defence you can last long in this game, I take it very seriously and I have a lot of confidence in my ability.

“It’s all tactical, a bit of showmanship, it’s to let the opponent know that their systems are a little bit inferior.”

Jarvis, however, is confident of stopping his foe.

“It would be great if I stop him, I’ve got to be careful of what he’s doing, but if I can do my thing I think I can cut him down,” Jarvis said.

Fenech knows his 23-year-old pupil has his toughest test in store.

“Nort is as tough as they come, this is 10 rounds and it is going to be war from the opening bell,” Fenech said.

The fight will be shown live on Fox Sports.
