George Kambosos has vowed to spoil his “wife” Rebecca with very own ‘Big Fat Greenk Wedding’ — a scenario the couple could not have dreamed of when they fell in love.

George Kambosos was once so poor he had $50 in his bank account and couldn’t afford to take his partner Rebecca out for dinner.

Now Kambosos has vowed to give the mother of his three children “a big fat Greek wedding” with Australia’s boxing kingpin revealing plans for the couple to marry.

On the eve of his world-title showdown with Devin Haney at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, the 28-year-old said it was time to reward his Portuguese princess for nine years of rock-solid support with a lavish wedding.

While Kambosos calls Rebecca his wife, the pair have yet to officially tie the knot.

That will change after the Haney fight with Kambosos to use the $10 million he makes from the unification bout to deliver a six-star wedding for Rebecca, who started dating ‘Ferocious’ in 2013 when he was broke.

“She is my wife in my eyes and the mother of my three beautiful kids, but it’s time to give her the wedding she deserves,” said Kambosos, who has Greek heritage.

“Rebecca is an incredible woman. She has stood by me through thick and thin and all the ups and downs of boxing.

“I remember how hard it was at the start. I had $50 in the bank and I couldn’t even afford to take her out for a sushi meal, it was pretty embarrassing to be honest.

“Now that I’ve enjoyed some success in boxing, I want her to have a lavish wedding for all the sacrifices she has made.”

The trials and tribulations of dating a professional boxer have taught Rebecca, who studied teaching, to be patient.

“We keep putting the wedding off,” she said.

“There has been so much going on. Everyone keeps saying are you guys actually married? Have you done the vows and all that? I said no that will happen and George keeps saying I need to give you a big fat Greek wedding.

“I said it’s OK, it’s not about me. I can be patient and wait.

“There is no rush, we have three kids and that’s more than a ring and a vow to me.

“We thought about doing it next year. He will be fighting again at the end of the year, so we will let this big fight settle and maybe concentrate on next year.

“A wedding is such a big preparation, so I would need a year to plan because George has such a big Greek family.

“It’s definitely on the to-do list.”

As is a family holiday where the obsessive Kambosos is banned from training.

“I would love to go to Fiji,” Rebecca said.

“When we have gone on holiday before, it’s never a proper holiday. George wants to run to the gym and train or find a local boxing club.

“I said that’s one thing on our list, we want to have a proper break. I said I just want to sit down and relax.

“The George you see every day is the real George at home. He has tunnel vision, he is so mentally focused.”

Rebecca has been blown away by the support of local fans ahead of Kambosos’ first Australian fight in five years after grinding away overseas in search of glory.

“It’s been a long journey,” she said.

“When I first met George and he told me he was a boxer, I didn’t think much about it. I never knew so much would go into it, all the sacrifices we had to make.

“We never had a lot of money. We were living in America and having to watch our money on what we could spend. It’s been a long road but the journey has been worth it. The journey has been for all of us, we wouldn’t have been able to do it without one another.

“Of course I’m always nervous. As many fights as I’ve watched being with him, it’s still like a kick in the guts every time. Every fight is different. You don’t know what will happen and now being in Australia, there is so much love and support. George has fought overseas for five years and we are used to him being booed or not loved.

“It’s so overwhelming to have so much love and support from people.

“I just can’t wait for the job to be done.”
