A former professional boxer stabbed a woman in the head with a butter knife during a terrifying rampage in front of young children and her mother, a court has been told.

Aaron Samuel Sesay’s victim desperately clutched a young girl throughout the vicious attack in the middle of a suburban street, threatening he would kill her.

The attack was deemed “violent, dangerous and protracted” by Judge David Reid, who jailed Sesay for seven years on Thursday.

Even during sentencing Sesay was unrepentant, branding the sentence “unfair” and rambling about an undiagnosed schizophrenia diagnosis.

“I never said I’d kill her,” he interrupted during proceedings.

Sesay, 27, had earlier pleaded guilty to malicious act with intent and multiple other serious charges at the Brisbane District Court.

The court was told the former Australian middleweight boxing champion approached the woman outside her Morayfield home on November 22 last year.

He called the woman a slut – having threatened her earlier that day – and accused her of sleeping with others before setting upon her with a butter knife.

The woman was holding a young girl in her arms when Sesay attacked.

“You punched and struck her head with the knife, including in the back of her neck and her face … you abused her saying ‘I’ll kill you, you f--king b---h,” Judge Reid said.

Sesay was told he had an appalling attitude towards women but the former champ boxer insisted on interrupting Thursday’s proceedings.

The woman suffered significant injuries, including multiple lacerations to her scalp and neck and a fractured eye socket.

“They weren’t life threatening … but if left untreated, those injuries would have caused serious disfigurement,” Judge Reid said.

He expressed concern for Sesay’s “appalling” attitude towards women and his “habit of blaming others for his own failings”.

Sesay sent a letter to the woman and her children in December apologising for what happened but Judge Reid said it read more like a “self-apology”.

The court was told he had a difficult background growing up as a refugee from Sierra Leone but had otherwise excelled in sport at school.

Sesay was sentenced to seven years’ jail. He will be eligible for parole in November 2023.

257 days spent in pre-sentence custody was declared as time served.
