Former Jeff Horn trainer Dundee Kim now training rival Tim Tszyu ahead of Queensland bout

Tim Tszyu will hope to have the inside track on Jeff Horn when the pair finally meet later in the year after Horn’s trainer of six years up to January, Dundee Kim, accepted an offer to join the rival camp.

Jeff Horn's trainer spars with Tim Tszyu

The master trainer who helped Jeff Horn become a worldwide champion is now helping to orchestrate his downfall by strengthening upcoming rival Tim Tszyu.

Brisbane boxing trainer Dundee Kim has joined the Tszyu camp this week to offer the same tips and tricks that helped Horn defeat former world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao in 2017.

The shock move comes as Horn and Tszyu prepare to face off inside the ring later this year for a super welterweight showdown between the two Australian boxers.

However when Tszyu came asking for advice from the world renowned trainer ahead of his bout with Horn, Kim could hardly refuse.

“(Tszyu’s camp) came here for a training camp and I showed him a few moves,” Kim said.

“His fighting style is very similar to his father.

“He’s very sharp. His punch is a very good technique.

“Everyone knows I formally resigned with Jeff Horn on January 17 and I’ve been training Jeff Horn for six years.

“It’s pretty much a full career I spent with Jeff.

“It was a good ride with him but sometimes, you just have to look for other opportunities.”

Tszyu and Kim are no strangers to each other either.

The pair first met in April 2017 when Kim was training Horn in his Brisbane gym.

Tszyu soaked up every piece of advice he gained from Kim during their session in Brisbane on Thursday and said he would use it to his advantage.

“I’ve got a coach as well,” Tszyu said.

“I travel around a lot to be able to learn, to be able to get new techniques … because at the end of the day, I want to be the best fighter that I could possibly be.

“If I can be the best fighter I can be, I’m going to be the best in the world.

“Coming here and learning from Dundee, it’s a great insight into what’s ahead for the future.

“I feel like an animal and I’m ready to eat.”

The Horn v Tszyu fight was slated for April inside Townsville’s brand new stadium however organisers were forced to postpone the event due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The showdown was expected to be a ratings hit and draw a sold out crowd and organisers are now waiting for crowd limits to increase above the 10,000-person limit in Queensland before announcing a new date.
