Rising lightweight star Ahmed Reda has called out Australia’s Olympic boxing hero Harry Garside for a rematch, claiming the outcome of the amateur bout the pair fought in August was unfair.

Garside scored a unanimous points win over Reda in the final of the Olympic qualifying event in Hobart four months ago.

Reda was left fuming after the bout.

“The judges are always a bit on his side but you know, what can you say? What can you do?

“It’s really hard to get a decision against him. He’s the favourite. Whether we like it or not, he’s the favourite and there’s nothing we can do about it.”

Garside brushed off claims that Reda was robbed.

“People have those beliefs. It’s so sceptical, boxing,” Garside said. “It’s everyone’s interpretation. Everyone wants to believe those things.

“I showed up, it was a good, hard fight in the final and I expected that. He’s a class fighter.

“People can talk, I’ll just keep doing my work.

“It was a good fight, I’m not gonna lie. I was tested at times, but I felt I was in control for big portions of it. He’s a class opponent and he’ll give most people trouble.

“That’s boxing, I got the decision and I’m one step closer to that gold medal.”

A history-making bronze medallist at the Tokyo Olympics, Garside is 3-0 as a professional, and is heading to the Paris Olympics next year.

With Garside watching from ringside in hosting duties on Fox Sports, Reda called for a rematch in the pro ranks, with his vocal group of supporters in the auditorium turning on Garside.

Reda said he’d be prepared to fight Garside “tomorrow” and isn’t impressed with what he’s seen of his professional career.

“He does the same stuff over and over,” he said. “Comes in, tap-tap, back out.

“You can’t really do that in the pros. Over 10 rounds, mate your legs will fold over four rounds. I’ll put the pressure on and pick the punches. Four ounce gloves it’s a different ball game.”
