Australian boxer Avril Mathie says her boxing style has now completely changed after she went under the knife.

The 37-year-old stunned her followers when she showed off her body transformation after having her breast implants removed.

Now Mathie is ramping up her training and preparing to get back into the ring following surgery and has noticed a stark difference in her boxing style.

“Today was my first day punching anything in more than two months (since before the explant surgery), and for the first time ever in my boxing life, my forearms can actually defend both my chin and body simultaneously, and I will be able to throw straight punches longer and faster now that the implants are not in the way forcing my elbows out,” she wrote.

“But old habits die hard, so here I’m doing reps on reps to teach my elbows their new position and I think we’re going to be here on the basics for a while.

“But give me a few weeks and my boxing is about to be tight.”

Mathie elaborated further on the change to her style and claimed boxing might now be “easier” in the future.

“My elbows can now touch my chest at the same time as my hands can protect my face for the first time in my life,’ she said on a Q&A published on her YouTube channel.

”I’ve always had a stopping block in the way, so it was always a choice between: ‘Do I want my hands protecting my ribs or protecting my face?’ Coaches were always yelling at me.

“I feel like my life as a boxer is about to get a lot easier and more opportunities.”

The 8-1-1 boxer detailed the reason behind having her implants taken out after having them in for 18 years.

“If you noticed something on me looking a little differently lately, you’re right. Seven weeks ago I removed my breast implants after 18 years,” she said.

“I got my first implants when I was only 19 because the culture I grew up in had me believing that I was out of proportion – and I was so insecure about my body.

“I never loved or hated having them, but I did appreciate that from one day to the next I went from super self conscious to just comfortable in my body and never giving it another thought.

“In the last couple of years I’ve seen girls I know remove their implants due to breast implant illness and I didn’t necessarily think I had that, but it did prompt me to go and get them checked.

“Even though they looked perfect from the outside, the scans revealed that the implants were actually not in the best condition and while not an emergency, the doctor recommended that I consider removal or replacement.

“Not gonna lie, the recovery was absolutely brutal and I’m still not back to 100 per cent yet – which has been a delay on me getting back to boxing.”

Mathie said she has fallen back in love with her body and is feeling like her old self following the surgery.

“Honestly, it was one of the best decisions of my life,” she said.

Mathie was due to return to the boxing ring in December last year to take on Ebanie Bridges in a bout dubbed the “battle of the boobs”.

The showdown between the two Aussies was given the busty billing due to both women stripping down to their underwear for weigh-ins.

But just weeks out from the fight Mathie was forced to pull the pin after sustaining an injury as Miyo Yoshida stepped in at the last minute to take on Bridges.

As she ramps up her training, fans will be eager to see Mathie and her new style get back into the ring.
