Courtney Woods re-signs with Townsville Fire in 2024

Star re-signs as she pledges to give everything she’s got to bring more championships to the Fire.

The WNBL’s Community Award winner Courtney Woods has committed to staying in Townsville for the next two seasons, the club announced on Wednesday morning.

Woods has been an integral part of Townsville’s minor premiership tilt on the court and is adored by fans off it for her unwavering pledge to give back to the basketball community.

Taking on a starting role at the Fire this season after Alice Kunek broke her wrist, Woods has set career-best averages for points (13.4), rebounds (4.5) and assists (2.5).

She said she was proud to make Townsville her home for the foreseeable future.

“I am so grateful to continue to be a part of such a special and successful club,” Woods said.

“I love playing for the Fire and I am so proud to continue my career here and make Townsville a home.

“I am so grateful for all the time and efforts that Shannon (Seebohm, head coach) and the club have poured into my development as a player and a human.

“I will give everything I have to bring more championships to this community.”

Fire coach Seebohm, fresh off claiming his record-tying fourth WNBL Coach of the Year award on Sunday night, said he was excited to lock in Woods’ recommitment.

“We are delighted to announce that Courtney will remain with our club for the next two seasons,” Seebohm said.

“Her consistent dedication and work ethic have made her an invaluable piece of our team since she joined us in 2020. Courtney’s continual improvement in several areas of her game has been evident year after year.

“Courtney’s professionalism and commitment to the team and club off the court are exactly what we look for in our players, and we are confident she will contribute significantly to our success in the seasons ahead.”

Woods will take to the court with her Townsville teammates in game 1 of the WNBL semi-finals against the Perth Lynx at the Fire Pit on Thursday at 6pm.
