The NBL has initiated conversations with Bronny James’ management in the hope of enticing the son of LeBron James — and the NBA all-time great — to play in Australia.

NBL owner Larry Kestelman confirmed to News Corp league officials had reached out to James Jr’s representatives in a bid to lure the burgeoning prospect Down Under.

Eighteen-year-old Bronny is in his last year of high school at LA’s Sierra Canyon School but is not eligible for the NBA draft until 2024.

Previous reports indicate James Jr, in his NBA gap-year, will choose between the NBL, G League Ignite or US college.

That glimmer of hope is all that was needed for the innovative Kestelman to seize on an opportunity to orchestrate what would be the single biggest coup in the domestic league’s history.

“We have absolutely reached out and there’s the start of a conversation but it’s very early days,” Kestelman told News Corp.

“It would be incredible to see, not just him, but I know there was a conversation about him and LeBron playing one season together.

“It’s a long shot, but the conversation has begun and we’ll be in the mix.”

LeBron Sr has said on more than one occasion he wants to play with or against his son before he hangs up his signature shoes.

“I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny, either in the same uniform or a matchup against him,” James said in one interview.

“My last year will be played with my son. Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point,” he said in another.

While it’s difficult to see Sr playing in Australia, the benefit for Jr has been laid out by the likes of former Next Stars LaMelo Ball and Josh Giddey, who have used the NBL to springboard their NBA dreams.
