Leading Australian agent Daniel Moldovan has joined forces with the same US management team as NBA stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Steph Curry in a significant win for basketball Down Under.
Moldovan, who looks after Australians including Boomers big man Aron Baynes and Adelaide rookie Josh Giddey, has signed with Octagon, a sports agency managing more than $1bn in active player contracts.
The agency has been at the forefront of basketball management and marketing while representing some of the biggest names in basketball, including 11 MVPs (eight NBA, three WNBA) and three back-to-back NBA MVP award winners.
Octagon Basketball’s MVP roster is highlighted by reigning back-to-back NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo (2020, 2019), two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry (2016, 2015), 1995 NBA MVP David Robinson and three-time NBA MVP Moses Malone (1983, 1982, 1979).
Octagon also has a storied history in Australia, representing some of the top athletes in the sport, including three-time NBA champion Luc Longley and former NBA champion and seven-time NBL MVP Andrew Gaze.
As part of the expansion, Moldovan’s clients, who were formerly represented by his Australian basketball agency Lighthouse Sports Management, will join Octagon.
Moldovan will serve as vice-president and player agent, and he will report to Octagon Basketball co-managing Directors Jeff Austin and Alex Sarcastic.
The pre-eminent agent in Australian basketball, Moldovan brings more than two decades of experience representing some of the top basketball talent across Australia, including Baynes, Giddey, Jonah Bolden, and Isaac Humphries
In addition to his extensive roster of current stars, he also represents some of the most promising young prospects in the game, including highly touted future NBA draft picks Giddey and Mojave King.
Moldovan believes his partnership with Octagon will help Australia create a stronger link to the NBA.
“I’m thrilled to join Octagon’s industry-leading basketball division and work alongside some of the best in the business in Jeff and Alex and the entire Octagon team,” he said.
“With the addition of our impressive international roster and strong foothold in Australia, I am confident we will continue to grow the Octagon Basketball brand, expand our footprint globally and enhance the breadth of services we provide to our All-Star roster of clients.”
Prior to joining Octagon, Moldovan founded and served as president of Lighthouse Sports Management.
Before starting the agency, he spent 15 years as vice-president of Entersport, representing players in the NBA and other leagues for their on-court contracts and marketing deals.
Previously, Moldovan also served as the sport director of the Hong Kong Football Club and worked in the league office of the NBA.
Octagon has a long and proud history in basketball that dates back more than 30 years.
The agency represents more than 900 of the most prominent and influential athletes in the world.
