WE’VE all watched and laughed at the moment in the film Anchorman when Ron Burgundy reads the infamous line “Go f*** yourself San Diego.”
Reading from a teleprompter on live television has caught out plenty of broadcasters and during a recent NFL game another legend fell victim.
Dick Stockton has been a broadcaster for over 40 years, covering sporting events from the NBA Finals to the World Series and the Olympics.
His lapse came during the week six game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams, as he attempted to set up Fox’s halftime show and what was to come.
“Coming up on the Visa halftime report,” Stockton said, clearly reading off a teleprompter or notesheet. “Curt, Terry, Howie, Michael and Tony.
“Look on graphic for the final two bullet points.”

The hilarious mistake went unnoticed by his broadcasting partner Mark Schlereth, but was quickly picked up by social media.
Stockton followed up his gaffe by appearing to poke fun at what he had just blurted out. “What did he mean by that?” Stockton said.
Luckily for Stockton, the moment was enjoyed by fans far and wide who were quick to put it down as his Anchorman moment.
"He will say anything on that prompter, and I mean an-y-thing."

Having spent many years reading teleprompters, this is nothing short of brilliant work

The commentatory slip up wasn’t the only one that caught the spotlight during week six as another veteran came under fire for his slip of the tongue.
Al Michaels is one of the most loved commentators in American sport — but he got this one very wrong.
The famed sports commentator, who has appeared in Hollywood films, including comedy classic Baseketball, made a throwaway joke about the New York Giants’ turbulent preparations for their game against Denver on Monday, and it fell flat. Really flat.
Michaels said the Giants’ preparation for their win over the Broncos was “a worse week than Harvey Weinstein”.
Michael’s light-hearted comment about the disgraced Hollywood figure was heavily criticised on social media.

Al Michaels is probably the best play-by-play guy in history. But boy... that was a big, big lapse in judgment.

After there were calls for Michaels to resign, the veteran commentator issued an apology during NBC’s Sunday Night Football broadcast.
“Sorry, I made a reference earlier before, trying to be a little flip about somebody (who is) obviously very much in the news all over the country, and it was not meant in that matter,” Michaels said.
“So, my apologies, and we’ll just leave it at that.”
