Can the Chiefs pull off a three-peat? NFL Week 1 Preview with NFL Straya

The 2024 NFL season kicks off this weekend, but one big question hangs over the entire season.

NFL Week 1 Preview with NFL Straya

After a wild, chaotic 2023 NFL season that culminated in Kansas City Chiefs defeating the San Francisco 49ers to win a second-straight Super Bowl, followed closely by an off-season that saw trades galore, a chaotic draft and the quarterback carousel move at speeds more approaching the Gravitron, Week 1 of the new NFL season is here.

And what a slate NFL fans have in store.

It all starts this week as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs try to get that three-peat bid off to a winning start.

Jaymz Clements from NFL Straya previews a wild Week 1 of the new NFL season, with the Chiefs and Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens - with brand new running back Derrick Henry - kicking off the 2024 season on Friday September 5.

In the entire history of the modern, Super Bowl-era of the NFL, no team has ever won three straight Super Bowls.

Not the ‘70s Steelers (four in six years), Dolphins or Cowboys, nor the Joe Montana Niners, or the ‘90s Cowboys. Not even the Tom Brady Patriots managed the feat.

So the everlasting weight of history rests on head coach Andy Reid, QB Mahomes and the broad shoulders of Travis Kelce - who this week has to come out and deny reports of a ‘break up’ contract between he and pop superstar Taylor Swift.

But with a revamped receiver room including new additions Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, rookie Xavier Worthy and second-year man Rashee Rice to balance out some the departure of cornerback L’Jarius Sneed on defence.

Then on Saturday the NFL heads to Brazil with two exciting young quarterbacks in Jordan Love and Jalen Hurts leading the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagle in the first ever regular season game in the South American country.

As the schedule hits Monday at 3am, there are division battles between exciting teams and some match-ups that will shine a big light on what we can expect from the rest of the season.

Can the young crop of rookie QBs in Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix make an impact?

How will the ascending Houston Texans, Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons all fare?

But that one big question hangs over the season: can the Chiefs and all the added pressure of an army of Swifties in tow, become the first team in NFL history to pull of an elusive three-peat?

Find out with NFL Straya’s NFL Week 1 preview and in the breakdown above.

From Brazil to Cincinnati, Seattle to Miami, NFL Straya looks at all the match-ups, all the storylines you covered this week and every week of the 2024 NFL season.
