It won’t just be Australians cheering for Jordan Mailata in the Super Bowl after hilarious mic’d up footage endeared the Aussie hulk to a whole new legion of fans.

Mailata will contest his second NFL decider when his Philadelphia Eagles take on defending champions the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Monday, February 10 (AEDT).

The Eagles smashed the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC conference championship game, ending rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ fairytale season.

Mailata showed why he is one of the most intimidating men in the NFL in a stunning passage of play early in the game against the Commanders.

Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts gave the ball to running back Saquon Barkley, who turned on the afterburners and sprinted through Washington’s defensive line.

A group of Washington players parted like the Red Sea as Mailata bulldozed three of them, and accidentally collected teammate AJ Brown in the process.

In new footage released by the Eagles, Mailata be heard hooting and hollering as Barkley broke two tackles and flew down the field to score the first touchdown of the game.

He said: “Go son. Go son. Yes sir, yes sir! Oh yeah baby.”

Mailata later apologised to Brown on the sidelines for taking him out in the stellar defensive play that knocked over a pile of players.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry dog,” Mailata said to his teammate.

“I was just like, ‘Oh AJ’s there, but there was like three guys so I just …”

Mailata was having the time of his life out on the field and couldn’t resist taunting his Washington opponents with an ice cold line made famous by Batman villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

Putting on Bane’s deep voice, Mailata cackled said: “I was wondering what would break first. Your spirit?! Or your body?!” The Eagles led 48-23 at that point of the game.

Fans couldn’t get enough of the trash talk that went viral on the NFL and Eagles social media channels.

One person said: “Jordan is an American treasure, and he’s not even an American.”

A second said: “Bro gotta be in a movie eventually he got the voice.”

A third commented: “Jordan Mailata has given me someone to root for in the Super Bowl.”

A fourth said: “It’s the laugh in the beginning” while someone else added “Jordan Mailata LOVES his job”.

Another fan said: “Mailata must be a joy on and off the field. Dude is just having so much fun. God I love this team. We will beat the Chiefs and the Refs in the Super Bowl.

The mic’d up footage captures Mailata giggling and chuckling constantly throughout the game as his team dominated the Commanders to book their place in the Super Bowl.

He can also be seen lifting a Commanders playing up and dropping him to the ground with one arm.

The Eagles first identified Mailata, who had no college football experience, at a training camp in 2018 and he was selected with pick 233 in the NFL Draft that year.

The 27-year-old played a handful of games with the South Sydney Rabbitohs juniors before turning to a sport that was more conducive to his hulking 166kg frame.

Standing at 203cm, the Aussie giant has become a key cog in the Eagles’ offence, regarded as one of the best offensive tackles in the game.

Last year he signed a signed a three-year, $100m contract extension, making him one of Australia’s highest paid athletes.

Most of Australia’s contingent of NFL players are punters, but Mailata is on the field more often in a prominent role with Philadelphia’s offence.

Mailata flattens opponents... & teammate

Mailata will get his chance at redemption after losing 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl two years ago, a match that also featured Aussie punter Arryn Siposs, who was let go by the Eagles after an ugly punt ended with a match-deciding touchdown to the Chiefs.

Mailata is the fourth Australian to play in a Super Bowl, following punters Ben Graham (Arizona, 2009), Mitch Wishnowsky (San Francisco, 2020) and Siposs, but the first to get to the main game twice.

Only one Australian, Jesse Williams, has a Super Bowl ring after being part of the Seattle Seahawks roster in their 2014 triumph. But he didn’t play during the season because of injury.

The Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, are aiming to win their fourth Super Bowl in six years and their third NFL championship in a row.
