Little girl seen slamming beer at Texas college football game

A little girl has gone viral after a video appearing to show the toddler throwing down an unusual beverage was published online.

A video has gone viral in the United States appearing to show a little girl throwing down a can of beer at a college football game.

The Texas Longhorns were in action at home last Sunday (AEST), thrashing the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks 51-3 to win their fourth straight game to start the new season.

But the action in the stands was drawing almost as much attention, with a very young girl seen repeatedly drinking from what appears to be a can of beer in the stands.

The video originated on TikTok from Trish Prell, who published it with the caption “toddler drinking is really bad” and a hashtag “baby got a beer”.

From most accounts the girl is around four years old and she is seen nonchalantly taking three solid swigs from the can while the woman next to her — who most assume is her mother — is distracted.

It has been viewed over 5.3 million times, has well over 400,000 likes and nearly 3000 comments.

“I mean, michelob is 99% water,” one joked about the supposed brand of beer.

“Finally a kid not using an iPad,” another quipped.

“Omg!!! Why didn’t anyone tell her!!!!!” another said of the woman next to the child.

“That lil girl gonna sleep good lol. It’s ok people … it’s just beer,” another reasoned.

The incident was then shared on X by Collin Rugg, who has 1.5 million followers on the platform.

He added the video to his post, which has been viewed a further 11.7 million times, while Rugg gave his version of events.

“Toddler caught throwing back a beer at the University of Texas football game over the weekend,” he wrote.

“The child, who appears to be about 4, was seen chugging a Michelob ULTRA.

“Her mother appeared to be completely oblivious to what was going on.

“According to the individual who shared the video on (TikTok), the mother was surprised to find out that her beer was all gone.

“Mom gets her beer back *beer all gone*,” said one commenter.

“That’s exactly what happened,” the creator of the video replied.

Rugg then wrote the mother was eventually told what had happened and “by that point, she needed a new beer”.

None of that is verified in the 21 second video you can see above or the fact the can actually contains any alcohol.

Either way it appears to be legal under Texas law, where “a minor can possess and consume alcohol when in the visible presence of their parent or guardian”, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The post on X drew another 3300 comments.

One joked: “This is outrageous. No parent should let their child drink terrible beer.”

Another replied to that: “There’s nothing funny about that.”

That prompted the comment: “Sure, to someone with no sense of humour.”

Others felt it was clear this wasn’t the kid’s first experience with beer.

“That kid has had a few beers before,” was one comment.

“That child definitely has experience drinking. Any normal child would have spit it out as soon as they tasted it,” wrote another.

When another person commenting on X wrote “what an awful parent”, Rugg replied: “Parents make mistakes. I wouldn’t call her an awful parent unless you know something we don’t.”

Whatever the real truth, it’s a wild video and there’s little surprise it’s gone viral.
