AARON Rodgers is the hail mary king.
With just five seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter of the NFL Divisional round between the Green Bay packers and the Arizona Cardinals, the Packers trailed 13-20.
The Packers had the ball for what would be the final play of regulation time, with the snap just over 40 yards from the endzone. A touchdown was the only way to keep their season alive, but with almost half the field to cover, the chance of another final surge miracle seemed slim.
Cue Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers quarterback took the ball from the line of scrimmage, pressured hard by the Cardinals defence. Retreating back to the 55-yard line, Rodgers turned and threw a hail mary lob, just before being sacked himself.
The pigskin sailed into the endzone, navigating its way around two Arizona defenders and into the hands of wide receiver Jeff Janis.

The play was reminiscent of Rodgers’ game-winning pass early last month, when the quarterback threw a 61-yard bullet for tight end Richard Rodgers to grasp in the endzone and push the Packers out to a 27-23 victory over the Detroit Lions.
Within minutes of Rodgers’ incredible lob against the Cardinals, his name was trending on Twitter, with a number of fans labelling him the Greatest Of All Time (G.O.A.T).

When Aaron Rodgers threw the ball, Jeff Janis was nowhere close to the end zone. Unbelievable on so many levels.

Unfortunately, not even Rodgers’ brilliance was enough to get the Packers over the line, as Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald ran in for the winning touchdown in overtime to give the Cardinals a 26-20 victory over Green Bay on Sunday after an extraordinary finish to an NFL playoff game that will be remembered as one of the classics.
Green Bay forced overtime in scarcely believable fashion. On fourth down and 20 at their own 4-yard line, with no time outs left in the final minute of regulation time, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers found a receiver to keep the game alive.
Then with time expiring, Rodgers sent the ball to Janis in the endzone and the conversion tied it.
Arizona had every right to feel deflated, but came up with the victory on the first drive of overtime. Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer spun away from a tackle and made a cross-field pass to a wide open Fitzgerald, and he eluded a series of tackles before being brought down just short of the end zone for a 75-yard gain.
Two plays later, Palmer tossed short to Fitzgerald, who had an open path to the winning touchdown.
Arizona advanced to the NFC championship game against the winner of Sunday’s game between Carolina and Seattle.
New England also advanced after a 27-20 victory over Kansas City.
