While the make-up of Channel Nine’s replacement for The Footy Showremains unclear, the network is set to a launch a new player driven footy show.

Crocmedia boss Craig Hutchison, a former Footy Show host, has been in talks with Nine for several months about the new concept which is understood to have been given the green light this week.

Some of the game’s biggest stars will rotate through the panel.

Richmond’s Alex Rance, Carlton’s Sam Docherty and Hawthorn’s Jarryd Roughead have already been linked to the program.

“It’s a show that will give the players their own voice,” one source said.

SEN’s Sam McClure, who parted ways with Channel 7 recently, is set for a return to television as the host.

Crocmedia bosses recently held secret meetings with two of biggest management groups in the game — Paul Connors and TLA — to gauge their support for the format.

While the placement of the show is still being mulled over, one of the options is to have it run after Footy Classified on Monday nights.

Crocmedia already provides football content for Nine with its Future Stars show, which focuses on the under-18 competition.

SHOE EXPLOSION STOPS ZION

Nike don’t often get too many things wrong but a faulty shoe has cast the footwear giant as enemy No.1 in America.

Most of the country tuned in for the college blockbuster between Duke and the University of North Carolina, primarily to watch Zion Williamson the 18-year-old freak who is a future No.1 draft pick.

Former US president Barak Obama was even in the crowd along with other celebrities like director Spike Lee and baseball legend Ken Griffey Jr.

They all came to see Williamson but his night lasted less than a minute after his Nike shoe exploded.

The teenage prodigy slumped to the ground holding his knee and didn’t reappear for the rest of the game.

Social media went into meltdown with the anger aimed at Nike, who are hoping to sign Williamson when he becomes available in April, and its epic fashion fail.

HAKEEM HOMECOMING

Fawkner’s modest 2000-capacity CB Smith Reserve looks set to outdo the Marvel Stadium Melbourne derby and every other soccer venue in the country in the VIP stakes, to celebrate the homecoming of refugee football Hakeem Al-Araibi.

Jimmy Barnes was desperate to perform at the first home game of the season of Al-Araibi’s club Pascoe Vale, but was a late scratching due to scheduling.

Craig Foster will headline a host of ex-Socceroos in attendance and will be joined by FFA chairman Chris Nikou, Opposition leader Bill Shorten and Premier Daniel Andrews.

Former Bahraini national team player Al-Araibi is still weeks away from playing after spending 76 days in a Bangkok prison.

The #SaveHakeem campaign grabbed global attention with Giorgio Chiellini, Didier Drogba, Gary Lineker and Jamie Vardy among soccer stars to give their support.
