NORTH Melbourne chairman James Brayshaw has implored Daniel Wells to take into account how “unbelievably well remunerated” he has been when planning his next move.
Wells is an unrestricted free agent, with recent reports suggesting the midfielder had been offered a three-year deal by Collingwood.
The two-time best and fairest winner is also considering remaining at Arden Street, having been a Kangaroo since 2003.
Brayshaw told Triple M on Monday that he had “no idea” about the Magpies’ interest in Wells, but believes he is shopping his services around.
“I know ‘Wellsy’ has had the same offer in front of him for a long time,” Brayshaw said.
“I don’t know what’s holding that up, he’s obviously having a look around otherwise he would have signed it.”
Brayshaw then suggested that Wells and his manager Liam Pickering should consider how the club has looked after him in recent years when choosing a club for 2017 and beyond.
“It would be disappointing to lose him. Firstly because I love him, always have,” Brayshaw said.
“But secondly for the last three years he’s been unbelievably well remunerated and played about four per cent of the games, so you’d hope that ‘Pickers’ would keep that in mind.”
Wells played just 12 games during 2014 and 2015 as he battled foot and Achilles injuries, but took part in 19 matches this season.
Brayshaw also said that veteran forward Jarrad Waite was set to play on at North Melbourne in 2017.
When asked whether Waite would be at the club next year, he said: “Yep, that’s what I hear.”
