Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury has signed a one-year contract extension to secure his future until the end of 2021.
The champion midfielder was out of contract at the end of the season but has done the deal early with list boss Ned Guy.
The five-time best-and-fairest winner and six-time All-Australian is coming off another outstanding year, finishing second in the Copeland Trophy.
While there was no threat of Pendlebury, 32, leaving Collingwood, his signature means the Pies can focus on re-signing stars Jordan De Goey and Darcy Moore.
De Goey and Moore are both out of contract this year and are certain to be targeted by rival clubs.
But Collingwood has an excellent record of keeping their biggest names at the club and remain confident the duo will stay.

Pendlebury said the club was in a great position.
“We’ve got our list in solid shape from a talent perspective and a strong sense of purpose; what we want to do and how we want to do it,” Pendlebury said.
“I’m proud of our program and I was keen to remain involved with it.”
Guy said Pendlebury was an instrumental figure for Collingwood on and off the field.
“Scott sets an example in the way he plays, trains and leads. His value to Collingwood is immense,” Guy said.
“His achievements speak for themselves but the influence of his professional dedication and constant search for improvement are so important to those around him,” Guy said.
“Very few can win six All-Australian blazers but everyone can learn something from a footballer who has played 20 or more matches in 12 of his 14 seasons and holds to the standard he does.
