Eddie McGuire says Collingwood will continue to work on a new contract with Darcy Moore

COLLINGWOOD president Eddie McGuire has a blunt message for the Sydney Swans. If they want to poach young gun Darcy Moore at the end of the season, they better be ready to pay up.

EDDIE McGuire has a message for the Sydney Swans.

If they want to poach Collingwood forward Darcy Moore, get ready to pay up.

Speaking on Channel 9 on Thursday night, the Collingwood president was responding to a report linking a soon to be out of contract Moore with a move to the Swans at the end of the season.

“I hope they have got 15 first round picks to give for him,” McGuire bluntly said.

Drafted as a father-son selection in the 2014 National Draft, Moore is one of the best young forwards in the AFL.

Already in his short 50 game career, the 22-year-old has kicked 61 goals, has twice been a Rising Star nominee and was selected in the 2016 “22 under 22” team.

Moore is the son of 1979 and 1984 Brownlow Medallist Peter Moore, who played 172 of his 249 AFL games with the Magpies.

Peter also captained Collingwood in 1981 and 1982.

After Collingwood’s horror 2017, Peter was critical of Collingwood’s game style under head coach Nathan Buckley.

He explained why it was hard to be a forward for the Magpies.

“One of the problems at Collingwood is the way they play. Their chosen game style is generally, it’s a five-man forward line playing on seven defenders, so it’s very difficult for forwards to kick a lot of goals and to get a lot of opportunities,” Peter said in a radio interview on SEN.

“The other issue is their entries into the forward half were absolutely hopeless in the first half of last year. They’re working hard to improve that and try and get better delivery and also move the ball a bit quicker.

“When you add all that up, forward line is not the best spot you can be at Collingwood and Collingwood forwards don’t tend to kick a lot of goals.”

While Darcy Moore spent his first three seasons in the AFL as a forward, he has, at times, been used as a defender this year.

McGuire said the club would continue to work with Moore on his next deal.

“I’ll tell you what is going on. He (Moore) will be sitting down with our leaders at the club, the people in charge of that, Geoff Walsh and Ned Guy in the next couple of days and discussing his contract,” McGuire said.

The Swans could be looking to use Moore as a replacement for Kurt Tippett, who retired on the eve of the 2018 season.
