Collingwood forward Jaidyn Stephenson struck down by glandular fever

Jaidyn Stephenson has been missing from Collingwood training this week following a health scare which could delay his start to the 2020 season.

Collingwood young gun Jaidyn Stephenson’s pre-season has been grounded because of a health scare.

The Pies forward has been missing from the Holden Centre this week after being diagnosed with glandular fever.

Stephenson is having more tests next week which will provide a better picture about how long he could be sidelined.

There are some suggestions it could be up to two months but Pies officials are confident it’s only a “mild” case of the energy sapping ailment.

Stephenson, who is entering his third season, returned to training early last month with the Pies’ younger players.

It’s been a challenging year for the 20-year-old who missed half of last season because of a betting ban.

Stephenson was handed a 22-game ban – of which 12 games were suspended – and fined $20,000 for three Collingwood-outcome bets across three separate games, which included wagering on himself.

He was suspended from Round 13 onwards before returning for the finals where he kicked three goals in the Pies two appearances in September.

Apart from the Stephenson scare the Pies are generally fairly healthy on the injury front.

Defender Levi Greenwood is stepping up his recovery from a knee reconstruction and has just started running while Tom Langdon is also on a modified program after knee surgery.
