Carlton is turning its back on much-needed finance to reward the loyalty of its members.
The Blues will not display a sponsor’s name on the back of the jumper, which the AFL has approved for the 2020 season, and instead will print a member’s name.
Major sponsor Hyundai was offered the space above the players’ numbers, but after talks, it was decided the launch of the ‘Back our ‘Baggers’ campaign was more important.
Carlton’s 67,000 members will be given the chance to have their name etched on the back of a player’s guernsey for a single game.
“It’s recognition of every record-breaking Bluebagger who has kept the club alive during this incredibly challenging time,’’ the club said.

Co-captain Patrick Cripps told the Herald Sun: “Any way we can engage the fans and give them a spark, I’m all for it.
“This is the time to be creative.
“I’ll always represent the emblem on the front and try my best and to have a member’s name on the back is a reward for their loyalty.’’
It’s understood the Blues, who will be millions of dollars in debt this season, will be the only club to provide this space to members.
Members/fans will go into the draw for the opportunity.
The players will wear the specific members’ jumper in three matches this season, the first match being the Round 4 clash against Essendon.
