GOLD Coast has been dealt a massive blow ahead of its clash with Melbourne.
The Suns will travel to Alice Springs without star midfielder Gary Ablett, who is out with a shoulder injury. However, it’s not all bad news for Gold Coast with David Swallow and Pearce Hanley back while Will Brodie will make his AFL debut. Melbourne has made three changes with James Harmes, Jake Melksham and Alex Neal-Bullen coming in for Christian Salem (suspended), Dean Kent and Sam Weideman. The Western Bulldogs have made some big changes after consecutive losses. After a final-quarter fadeout against Geelong last week, Luke Beveridge has again swung the axe with Travis Cloke, Jack Redpath and Lukas Webb all omitted. Premiership forward Jake Stringer makes a timely return from a knee injury while Shane Biggs earns a recall and No.19 draft pick Tim English makes his debut. English will share ruck duties with Tom Boyd against St Kilda’s Billy Longer. The Saints have lost star forward Nick Riewoldt to a knee injury while Luke Dunstan has been axed. Shane Savage and Darren Minchington come in. With it’s season on the line, Hawthorn has turned to youth for its clash against Sydney at the SCG. Dallas Willsmore and James Cousins will make their AFL debuts after strong VFL form while Kaiden Brand also comes in. Kurt Heatherley, Billy Hartung and Will Langford were all dropped. Brisbane could make up to seven changes after falling to their eighth consecutive defeat. Tom Cutler, Daniel McStay, Ryan Bastinac, Rohan Bewick, Cedric Cox, Rhys Mathieson and Archie Smith have all been added to the squad to face Collingwood. Tom Bell, Josh Walker, Ryan Harwood and Claye Beams (hamstring) are out. The Magpies have finally recalled Matt Scharenberg while Tim Broomhead, Jackson Ramsay, Ben Crocker and Mason Cox are also in the 25-man squad. James Aish is out with a cheekbone injury while Henry Schade has been omitted. On Wednesday, Geelong made three changes with veteran defender Tom Lonergan rested while Cam Guthrie returns and Jordan Cunico makes his AFL debut. Port Adelaide has made just one change, with Chad Wingard to miss with a calf injury. Aaron Young is his replacement.
