There’s some shocks — hello, West Coast Eagle Patrick Bines — while there’s no surprise to see Patrick Dangerfield and Patrick Cripps up high.

Rory Laird has been a top-10 pick since SuperCoach opened in January while Brodie Smith’s value makes him hard to ignore. But the big bolter since the weekend has been Brad Crouch who has shot to 41st overall in popularity after a big game against Port Adelaide. He’s vastly more popular than his more proven younger brother Matt Crouch, who is only in 6.9 per cent of teams. If Shane McAdam debuts in Round 1, expect his ownership to shoot up.
BRISBANE

At 18 per cent ownership, this might actually be the most popular Lachie Neale has ever been heading into Round 1. He’s as reliable as they come and dominated the Lions’ first JLT Series game. Stef Martin started out as a top-30 pick but has plummeted in popularity as Archie Smith looks to usurp his No. 1 ruck role. Smith is cash cow price and could force his way into the Lions’ top five if he continues to show up Martin.

Talk about SuperCoach gold. Carlton is being mined like BHP is going out of business with the second, third, fourth and eighth most popular picks after JLT 1. Setterfield, Walsh and Cripps all scored tons against Essendon while Gibbons showed he’s up to the standard. Despite missing JLT 1 cash cow Liam Stocker has 12.7 per cent ownership while veteran premium Kade Simpson is a POD at 6.4 per cent.
COLLINGWOOD

Despite being the top-priced player in SuperCoach, Brodie Grundy remains the most popular ruckman and only enhanced his reputation against Fremantle on Monday. Jamie Elliott is one of the big movers after the weekend, rocketing into the top-100 while Jordan De Goey remains a relatively popular pick despite a foot injury expected to keep him out until Round 1. In his return to Collingwood Dayne Beams is the 94th most popular pick.
ESSENDON
31. Devon Smith $531,300 mid/fwd (24.3 per cent)
33. Zac Clarke $142,600 ruck (21.7 per cent)
40. Andrew McGrath $384,300 def/mid (17.2 per cent)
43. Irving Mosquito $117,300 mid/fwd (15.2 per cent)

After his best-and-fairest winner debut season at Essendon, it’s no surprise to find Devon Smith on top of the Bombers’ popularity contest. However, a big shock is Zach Merrett with just 8.1 per cent ownership behind Andrew McGrath, Irving Mosquito and Dylan Shiel. On the comeback trail, Joe Daniher has 7.6 per cent ownership as a mid-price forward with good upside. We don’t expect Mosquito to debut in Round 1, so it might be time to look elsewhere.
FREMANTLE

How strange that only two of Fremantle’s five most popular SuperCoach picks actually played on Monday. Bewley was solid against Collingwood and remains a top-10 pick while Fyfe slid from the verge of the top-10 to 15th after undergoing surgery on his elbow after the AFLX. After scoring 114, Rory Lobb (121st) should skyrocket in popularity as he currently sits in 3.7 per cent of teams. Tobe Watson is most likely being used as a floating donut
GEELONG

Dangerfield’s ownership has remained steady following the opening pre-season game but there’s been a big jump for teammates Darcy Fort, Jordan Clark and Tim Kelly. Fort didn’t steal any headlines with his JLT performance but should play Round 1 while Charlie Constable enhanced his pre-season reputation as a top cash cow. Kelly’s the interesting choice as it’s rare to see a first-year player back up such a strong maiden season.

Firstly, what’s Harrison Wigg still doing in almost 10 per cent of teams? He’s out for the season, people! Chris Burgess looked the goods in tricky conditions in the Suns’ JLT clash in Mackay, as did Sam Collins. Both will be there in Round 1 and should be in your SuperCoach team. Izak Rankine showed a bit but with just seven disposals can we spend almost $200k on him? Fellow high-priced cash cow Jack Lukosius is in 8.2 per cent of teams.
GWS GIANTS

Lachie Whitfield and Zac Williams are locked in a fierce battle to be the Giants’ No. 1 SuperCoach pick and likely you’re going back and forth over who to pick in your team with Williams the value pick at $140k less. Stephen Coniglio shot back into SuperCoach calculations with an impressive showing against Sydney on Saturday while we’re yet to see Josh Kelly or Toby Greene this pre-season.
HAWTHORN

James Sicily as a forward was not what we wanted to see on Sunday but Jack Scrimshaw as a distributing defender was all we hoped for. James Worpel showed a bit but James Cousins is the big mover as Hawthorn figure out how to replace Tom Mitchell. Despite not play. Despite another setback with his calf injury, Chad Wingard remains in 9.6 per cent of teams while 5.1 per cent of SuperCoaches hope Grant Birchall can finally end his injury curse.
MELBOURNE

After impressing in a scratch match against Collingwood and again in the JLT clash against Richmond, Marty Hore has rocketed into SuperCoach cash cow calculations. In fact, he’s now edged out Max Gawn as the Demons’ most popular pick. Gawn didn’t play JLT 1 and despite Brayden Preuss looking more and more likely to play Round 1 remains hugely popular. Clayton Oliver’s big ton against the Tigers has improved his ownership significantly.
NORTH MELBOURNE

Aaron Hall’s ownership fell after hurting his knee in the opening minutes of JLT 1 but the new Roo got some good news and should be ready for Round 1. With Robbie Tarrant and Majak Daw on the sidelines, Ben McKay looms as a Round 1 starter in defence. Todd Goldstein is the third most popular ruckman behind Grundy and Gawn, underlining his popularity as a value pick for those team unwilling to splash out $1.4m on the top-priced pair.
PORT ADELAIDE

Two cash cows are big bolters after the first week of JLT Series games. Zak Butters and Willem Drew are now among the most popular SuperCoach picks after impressing against Adelaide. However, Connor Rozee remains the most popular pick, despite his higher price. A lot depends on Robbie Gray’s (79th overall) role but if he starts playing permanent midfield his 7.6 per cent ownership will skyrocket.
RICHMOND
16. Dustin Martin $463,800 mid (30.7 per cent)

There’s not a lot of love for Richmond players in SuperCoach this pre-season. It continues to surprise us that Dustin Martin isn’t a top-10 pick given his price and scoring ability. Noah Balta was the talk of the SuperCoach town on Sunday with a strong JLT 1 showing against Melbourne and in just one day increased in popularity by almost 7 per cent. One-time premium defender Alex Rance has dropped right off the radar at just 3.7 per cent ownership.
ST KILDA
14. Nick Hind $117,300 mid (30.8 per cent)
21. Matthew Parker $117,300 fwd (29.0 per cent)
30. Dylan Roberton $297,500 def (24.4 per cent)
64. Callum Wilkie $124,900 def (8.9 per cent)

The Saints loom as a cash cow and mid-price heaven in 2019 with the top-five popular picks all priced under $330k. Mature-age recruits Nick Hind, Matt Parker and Callum Wilkie should all suit up in Round 1 while Dylan Roberton looks back to his premium defender form of 2017. Former Swan Dan Hannebery is battling injury and is long-odds to play Round 1, leaving 7.1 per cent of SuperCoaches to find another option in midfield.
SYDNEY

Isaac Heeney has been a top-10 most popular pick since SuperCoach opened and only enhanced his case for a bigger role in the midfield against GWS. The other man looking to move into the engineroom, Callum Mills, is in just 8.1 per cent of teams with a logjam of mid-price defenders available this season. Jake Lloyd was clearly the No. 1 scoring defender last year but it would seem his price is a little off-putting given his 27 per cent ownership.
WEST COAST

Have we found the new Tony Olango? Patrick Bines is a bottom-priced ruck-forward who looks to be the No. 1 floating donut candidate for 2019. Jack Petrucelle’s ownership should grow as he builds a case for Round 1. He won’t be a huge scorer but we need forward bench options. Despite his stellar 2018, Elliot Yeo is now a massive POD as a midfielder only at only 5.6 per cent ownership. Can Dom Sheed build off his Grand Final heroics?
WESTERN BULLDOGS

Despite not playing in JLT 1, Ben Cavarra remains the most popular pick at the Bulldogs and top-10 overall. Tom Liberatore’s impressive showing against the Suns in Mackay has seen his ownership rise sharply, ahead of high-priced teammate Jack Macrae. SuperCoaches have seemingly lost faith with Toby McLean (6.2 per cent) while Marcus Bontempelli is in POD territory with just 4.7 per cent ownership.
