Rage trades: The players you need to trade out of your SuperCoach team after Round 13

BULLDOG Jack Macrae is the No.1 ranked player in SuperCoach this season but after he suffered a hamstring injury against Port Adelaide, do we need to commit a SuperCoach cardinal sin and trade the premium midfielder? BEST SUPERCOACH ADVICE

WE ARE now through two of the three major bye rounds and if you’re reading this you’re hopefully still with us and have not yet thrown in the towel.

While the long-dreaded Round 14 bye round is now upon us, if you’ve managed your trades right you should be able to come out the other side — hopefully with your SuperCoach dignity still relatively intact.

The hardest part about the last few weeks has been dealing with the unanticipated injuries and suspensions to popular players including Rory Laird, Stephen Coniglio, Nat Fyfe, Michael Walters and now Jack Macrae.

Even the best laid plans have likely come unstuck but you are not alone. Let’s hope there are no more unexpected dilemmas that come our way for the week ahead, which already sees players from Adelaide, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney, Fremantle and Geelong out of action.

BOOT HIM

It’s never ideal being forced to trade the No.1 ranked player in the competition but Bulldog Jack Macrae is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a low-grade hamstring strain after his side’s loss to Port Adelaide on Thursday night.

Prior to the commencement of this week, Macrae’s break-even sat at a whopping 215 before scoring just 51 points as he was ruled out of the game at half time.

It might be best to simply tear off the Band-Aid and trade him now — even though his price will decrease dramatically as it will continue to free-fall for quite a number of weeks after his return.

He’s well worth burning a trade to buy back cheap in a few weeks time.

Even then, don’t panic if you can’t afford to do so. If you still have cover from the likes of Tim Kelly or Nick Holman to step in and fill his role, they should be able to get you by if you properly use loophole options.

BUY HIM

It was the underperforming players that teased selection this week.

Ollie Wines, Tom Rockliff and Patrick Ryder all scored well again for the Power and would each have been excellent cover options over the last two bye rounds.

Kade Simpson staked a claim to be back on our radars (surprisingly only in 30 per cent of teams), while Jack Gunston continued to do his chances no harm as an unlikely POD. Both churned out exceptional scores of 123 and with reasonable draws coming up, should be heavily considered as upgrade options.

Sydney’s Josh Kennedy continues to entice after his fifth score in a row above 100, while Fremantle’s scoring machine Lachie Neale surpassed his highest score of the year with 159.

Hold off on both for another week thought as both have the bye.

Finally, despite not playing this week North Melbourne’s Paul Ahern will be on the bubble next week after playing his first two games for the club with scores of 84 and 57. At just $123,900, he will be the perfect forward/midfield downgrade option for those who haven’t jumped on him early.

NAILED IT

Reviewing Thursday night’s predictions on the SuperCoaches Box podcast (watch live from 6:15pm every Thursday or catch up on iTunes):

Al Paton: Jack Macrae a good VC option against the Power on a wet night in Adelaide. Be wary of Nat Fyfe. If he cops the tag from Ed Curnow, won’t reach a score of 150+.

Verdict: Failed It. Not much more to say about this one, Al. Macrae went down with a hamstring injury in the second term when stranded on just 51 points. Fyfe, meanwhile, notched up a massive 30 touches and two goals in his 154-point game.

Hopefully he stuck to his game plan and handed Tom Mitchell the captaincy after he produced a score of 136 after Macrae’s unfortunate result.
