KFC SuperCoach 2022: Expert consensus team, last-minute cheat sheet

To help you pick a competitive starting side, seven expert KFC SuperCoach teams have been collated and combined into the ultimate consensus team for 2022.

DEFENCE

Giant Lachie Whitfield is the only defender to feature in all seven expert teams, with

Jack Crisp (5), Jayden Short (4) and James Sicily (4) the next most-popular. On-field rookie option Mitch Hinge, who was moving well at Crows training on Monday, is another picked in four of the expert teams. Basement-price cheapie Sam De Koning is in three, as is Heath Chapman, with the young Docker emerging has a D5 replacement for Lion Keidean Coleman.

UPDATE: With no Demons or Bulldogs in this backline, who are locked out after playing in the first game of the season, lock and load.

MIDFIELD

This is where our experts are slightly differing in their opinion of what the best structure is. Every team has Matt Rowell, but some have opted for four premiums alongside him, others three and cut-price Lion Jarrod Berry. The latter just won the consensus vote, also allowing for extra money to be spent on the right bench rookies.

If options pop up over the next few days, you can go cheap on the bench and squeeze in that extra midfield premium in this structure.

Each of the seven KFC SuperCoaches have selected Jack Macrae and Lachie Neale, but Touk Miller edged our Jack Steele 4-3. On the rookie front, Jason Horne-Francis, Nick Daicos, Dylan Stephens and Connor MacDonald are also unanimous selections.

UPDATE: Jack Macrae was in every expert team but he’s now locked out. The obvious replacement is Steele, who averaged 126 points a game last season.

RUCKS

Brodie Grundy is in every team, while five of the seven experts are starting with Max Gawn. The Phantom and Jackson Davey are taking the risk on Sean Darcy.

UPDATE: With Gawn locked out (and scoring a slightly underwhelming 92), The Phantom and Jackson get their man.

The expert consensus 2022 KFC SuperCoach starting team

FORWARDS

This is where many KFC SuperCoaches teams are starting to look similar, and it’s no different here. That’s not a bad thing, though. Josh Dunkley is F1 in every team, while Zak Butters, Stephen Coniglio and Josh Rachele have been picked on field by every coach. Will Brodie (4) and Mitch McGovern (4) are also popular, but Adam Treloar and Tim English are big forward line points-of-difference. Power rookie Jed McEntee edges out Jack Hayes by one vote.

UPDATE: No Josh Dunkley, unfortunately. The player with the most votes who didn’t make the team was Saint Jack Hayes but at $102,400 he’s not the ideal Dunkley replacement. The most popular top-end forward still available is Dustin Martin, who is in 37 per cent of teams – including Al Paton’s.
