SuperCoach AFL stats dossier: Full CBAs, kick-ins, time on ground for round 10

Bailey Dale’s 49 disposals equated to a big SuperCoach score, but not as big as it could have been. See why plus every player’s CBAs, kick-ins and time on ground from round 10.

Bevo lauds 'exemplary' Bailey Dale

Bailey Dale executed a major portion of the SuperCoach scoring system about as well as you can do it on Saturday night.

But disposals aren’t everything.

The scoring formula, finetuned over many years by Champion Data, rewards not only what players do with the ball, but how they win it.

Dale racked up 49 disposals on his way to a game-high 144 SuperCoach points.

He used his running power and footy smarts to full advantage against Essendon, recording just three contested possessions and a whopping 26 handball receives. Classed as uncontested possessions, Dale scored 27.8 SuperCoach points from that source.

In fact, Dale set a new Champion Data record – the most disposals in a game with three or fewer contested possessions (dethroning the previous record holder, Joel Bowden, who had 44 disposals in round 4, 2009). Every other player who has had 49-plus disposals in a match has had at least 16 contested possessions.

Uncontested possessions are worth less than contested possessions in SuperCoach, and another six of Dale’s disposals were from behind kick-ins, where he didn’t receive any points at all for winning the footy.

Teammate Tom Liberatore had 17 contested possessions and 33 disposals (and no kick-ins) to earn 140 SuperCoach points. He and Dale were two of seven Dogs to post a 100-plus score, with four of those over 120. With 3300 points allocated to every game, there are only so many points to go around.

The numbers illustrate there are different ways to impact a game, and to score in SuperCoach.

Champion Data’s full stats report for round 10 notes the centre bounces, kick-ins and time on ground for every player.

Among this week’s standout stats:

HARRY Sheezel had zero kick-ins, after taking five the week before, as he played more of a MID-FWD role against Richmond

KEIDEAN Coleman took two kick-ins in his return game, playing on from one of them. Darcy Wilmot (6) and Dayne Zorko (5) still had most of the kick-in duties for Brisbane.

ANGUS Sheldrick attended 12 CBAs against Carlton on his way to a season-high 81 SuperCoach points. He dodged the sub vest but spent just 60 per cent time on ground.

NASIAH Wanganeen-Milera was back in the centre square mix for St Kilda, attending 13 CBAs.
