WHILE Patrick Dangerfield and Gary Ablett both chose to return to the Geelong area for family reasons, there was also the lure of a premiership.
And over the past few weeks the pair have played in a fashion that suggests September can’t come soon enough, Dangerfield being virtually unstoppable against the Gold Coast.

Two other men of similar capabilities who are set for finals action are the dominant ruck artists of 2018 in Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy, a duo who have hardly played a bad game between them.
Then there is Patrick Cripps, a player who has ignored the struggles of his team to produce a season that stands out in any era.
Or Dustin Martin, more spasmodic than last year but his hot games have been just as hot. Trent Dumont, a first timer on this list, would appear set for a serious 2019 season.
Josh Jenkins left his best until late in the year, although he wasn’t alone given the Adelaide forward line was strangely subdued.
Jack Macrae finished as he began by taking his own ball to games, James Harmes staked yet another claim as the best run-with player in 2018 and Liam Shiels displayed why he is held in such high regard by the Hawks.
