Fremantle has been exposed by “damning” vision during their disastrous loss to GWS.

The Dockers were embarrassed in the 70-point loss to the Giants in western Sydney, a result that suggests they are pretenders in the race for a spot in the top eight.

While the win over Geelong at Kardinia Park may be the best victory for the Giants since Adam Kingsley took charge this performance was the most complete as the home side swarmed a Dockers in every area of the game.

It’s the first time the Giants have won back-to-back games since 2021 and their

first triumph at home since round one.

They took complete advantage of a Fremantle team who gave up once the result was beyond doubt, to the huge disappointment of their coach Justin Longmuir who suffered his heaviest defeat since taking charge of the club.

There were times when the Dockers’ defensive pressure was not at a professional level.

Kane Cornes on Sunday highlighted some ugly statistics from the performance, showing the Dockers were -10 on clearances, -24 on contested possessions and -13 tackles against the Giants.

“There’s something seriously wrong at Fremantle,” Cornes said on the Sunday Footy Show.

“I don’t know why this season has been derailed. But these numbers are extraordinary across the board. This is a side that isn’t in contention to make the top eight.

“I thought it was a pitiful performance. Something is wrong at Fremantle and that is one of the worst losses by any team this year.”

The show played video of multiple occasions when Dockers players failed to chase in defence or were weak in contests.

One video showed Stephen Coniglio was able to pick up a ball and stand stationary for several seconds while three Fremantle players stood there without trying to tackle him.

Another video showed a clever kick in from the boundary that found space inside the top of the 50m arc where three giants players had a paddock between them to take an easy uncontested mark which resulted in a shot for goal in the fourth quarter.

Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd said the vision played was “damning”.

The tone was set in the first term as the Giants jumped out to a four-goal lead with the excellent Jake Riccardi kicking two of his five goals in the opening stanza, in the absence of Jesse Hogan who was a late omission with calf soreness.

The dominance in the clearances was evident from the start and was maintained throughout the game as Keiren Briggs bullied Luke Jackson in the ruck as Fremantle lamented the absence of Sean Darcy enormously.

While Jackson was serviceable around the around the ground, the likes of Josh Kelly, Tom Green and Stephen Coniglio cruised in the midfield with Toby Greene helping stretch the margin out to five goals at half-time with three majors of his own.

The led to the Giants skipper registering his 300th goal in Giants colours before

the main break and from there it was a procession.

GWS piled on eight goals to two in the second half, which resembled a training drill at times, as they moved the ball with ease from half-back and hit up targets in attack with little resistance from the Dockers.

It was party time late on as Kelly capped off his first game back from a hamstring injury with three goals while long-kicking Irishman Callum Brown continued to enhance his cult hero status at the club with two majors.

The only negative for the Giants was a sling tackle from Lachie Whitfield on Fremantle’s Jordan Clark that may incur a suspension and will generate plenty more discussion as a hot topic currently in the game. Clark was dazed after the incident but played on the remainder of the game which may helps the dashing Giant’s case.
