Todd Goldstein has turned his back on Geelong to stay loyal to North Melbourne.
The Cats had come hard for Goldstein, tabling a stunning four-year deal for the Kangaroos’ unrestricted free agent in a bid to solve their ruck crisis.
The Herald Sun has been told North’s improved three-year offer has been enough to convince him to stay at Arden Street.
“I had a lot to weigh up when the season finished, but ultimately my love for North, my teammates and the people here won me over,” Goldstein told the club website.
“I’ve always said I wanted to see out my career at Arden St and be a one-club player, so I’m thrilled to be able to do that now.”
St Kilda had also been keen to lure the All-Australian and 2015 best and fairest to Moorabbin, but Rowan Marshall’s emergence saw their interest cool.
The Saints now seem certain to acquire Paddy Ryder as a back-up and forward option.
Goldstein’s signature would be a huge coup for North Melbourne and newly-appointed full-time coach Rhyce Shaw.

The 31-year-old ruckman has played 234 games for North Melbourne and averaged a career-best 17 disposals this year.
“I played every game this year and ran out the season well,” he said.
“I feel the best I ever have in terms of both my body and my mind, and can’t wait for what the future holds for our club.
“I feel like I can still go to another level with my game and impact the scoreboard a little bit more and become a more dangerous proposition when I push forward.”
