FORMER Hawk Xavier Ellis has put his name up in lights with an outstanding NAB Challenge performance against Fremantle.
The injury-prone midfielder was looking for a new start following several fruitless seasons at Hawthorn after he was taken with the No.3 pick in 2005.
Ellis had six touches in as many minutes in the first quarter and found the ball at will until he was subbed out in the third quarter, finishing with 21 disposals and 89 Nissan SuperCoach points.
He will be a strong contender for a Round 1 berth.
The Eagles demolished their arch-rivals in the pre-season Derby at Joondalup and had seven of the top 10 scorers at the final siren.
Luke Shuey (125) showed plenty of pace and skill while Matt Priddis (120) was outstanding in the clinches and Mark Hutchings (107) was a big surprise through the midfield.
Fremantle were well served by Nathan Fyfe who finished the match with 113 points while Lachie Neale (93) excelled in the forward line and through the middle.
Importantly for Dockers fans, Aaron Sandilands (91) showed no signs of the toe injury that plagued his 2013, winning the ruck battle with Dean Cox (79).
Dockers captain Matthew Pavlich started the match as a substitute but came on at half-time, kicking two goals and racking up 53 points.
