A Carlton supporter who posted footage of Kyle Hartigan’s off-the-ball elbow on Sam Walsh helped suspend the Hawthorn defender for three weeks.

Hartigan can accept a lengthy week suspension for his behind-the-play hit, which was not on the AFL’s initial list of incidents.

It was widely shared on social media on Sunday with the AFL able to consider the Hartigan hit when it emerged.

The video was captured by a fan in the crowd and showed Walsh running back towards goal to put on a screen where Hartigan drops him with a high elbow.

Walsh immediately went to ground for some time, but strangely neither he or teammate Harry McKay remonstrated towards the Hawthorn defender.

McKay’s head was turned when Walsh was collected by Hartigan, but the Blues midfielder didn’t challenge Hartigan either after his hit.

The incident was assessed as high impact, high contact and intentional.

And Gold Coast will seriously consider a tribunal appeal after Nick Holman was suspended for two weeks for a driving tackle on Mitch Duncan that saw the Sun receive a holding-the-ball free kick.

Sun football boss Jon Haines told the Herald Sun Gold Coast would review the charge on Sunday and decide if it would appeal by Monday morning.

The Suns had believed the tackle was a routine chase-down tackle that was correctly rewarded by the umpires.

Duncan was subbed out of the game with concussion after the incident.

In the third contentious incident of the weekend, Carlton’s Lachie Plowman was also suspended for his collision with Hawthorn midfielder Jaeger O’Meara.

Plowman braced for impact when he and O’Meara went for a high kick but did not attempt to mark or spoil the ball.

Under MRO guidelines he was responsible for the contact and was handed a two-week ban.

Taylor Walker was handed a fine for his dumping tackle on Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver after the Demons midfielder played on in the Crows’ one-point win.

Darcy Fogarty was also fined for his elbow to the back of Melbourne’s Jake Lever.

Richmond will have to decide whether to challenge Marlion Pickett’s one-week ban for his coathanger on Brisbane’s Brandon Starcevich, which in previous years would likely have seen him dodge suspension.
