Adelaide Crows news: All the latest pre-season updates ahead of the 2022 campaign

There is some good news from West Lakes with Lachlan Murphy back running and a big name rejoining the main group. But now two Crows are battling concussion issues.

Adelaide small forward Lachlan Murphy is back running on grass for the first time since off-season neck surgery.

The 23-year-old underwent a procedure on a bulging disc in December, having aggravated a shoulder and neck issue that had bothered him for the past two seasons.

Murphy resumed running on the West Lakes turf at Crows training on Monday and teammate Luke Brown said he was enthusiastic as ever.

“They (fitness staff) were just trying to hold him back a bit – he started running pretty hard out there,” Brown said.

“It’s always good to see (someone) off a serious surgery to be running around so quickly and be up and about.

“I don’t expect any less from him, he’s a really positive guy.

“He’s actually been really good since the surgery and actually walked to the club four days post-surgery.

“He loves it around here and just wants to get out there.”

Fellow forward Shane McAdam is going through concussion protocols after a head knock in a scrimmage on Friday.

Recruit Jordan Dawson has pulled up fine from a banged knee in that session.

Wingman Paul Seedsman is also recovering from lingering concussion symptoms, stemming from a head knock in training before Christmas.

“He’s been through the club, doing a bit of stuff around the track – not as much running, mostly just walking around, getting used to it again,” Brown said.

“He’s on the right path but we’ll take it careful with him.”

Brown was restricted to just 11 games last year while he dealt with an achilles issue that required surgery.

The defender said he had not endured issues with it this pre-season, allowing him to complete most sessions, apart from a few fitness boss Darren Burgess and coach Matthew Nicks told him to sit out.

“Last year definitely was a struggle not being able to get consistency with the achilles, being in for a couple of weeks and being out again,” he said.

“We decided to pull the pin early and get the surgery done so I was best prepared for this pre-season, which has put me in good stead.”

Matt Crouch, who was sidelined for all of the 2021 campaign, rejoined the main group last week on the comeback trail from groin surgery and was with it again on Monday.
