NAB League replay: Eastern Ranges clinch thriller at the death over Dandenong Stingrays

The Eastern Ranges have survived a scare from a barnstorming Dandenong Stingrays to pinch a thrilling two-point triumph at Frankston Park.

An arm-wrestle became a scoring frenzy in the last quarter with the Stingrays nearly pulling off a stirring comeback.

Holding a comfortable lead in the early stages of the final term, the Ranges conceded three goals in quick succession to the Stingrays who rose to the occasion under lights.

Trailing by 10 points, the Ranges responded with two goals in as many minutes to take the lead with three and a half minutes to play.

The Ranges managed to hold on in a tense finale to secure their third win of the season despite the late heroics of Stingrays draft bolter Judson Clarke.

Clarke, who has generated plenty of attention since his breakout five-goal display for Vic Country at last week’s trials, kicked a classy goal on the run to give the Stingrays life and got his hands on the footy when the game was on the line.

While he was unable to replicate his stunning display for Vic Country, it was a promising performance nonetheless from the 179cm mid-forward.

AFL national talent manager Kevin Sheehan rated Connor MacDonald as the Stingrays’ best player on the ground, with his ball-winning and footskills standing out.

For the Ranges, Jake Soligo continued his strong run of form in the midfield while Jake Arundell provided plenty of spark up forward.

The pair, who both kicked goals on the night, both caught the eye for Vic Metro last weekend.
