FREMANTLE coach Ross Lyon has made good on his promise to double down on youth, swinging the axe on veterans Hayden Ballantyne, Danyle Pearce and Michael Johnson.

The veteran trio are among six changes for Sunday’s AFL clash with Collingwood at the MCG. Aaron Sandilands (concussion) and Stephen Hill (quad) were forced out through injury, while former Sun Brandon Matera was axed. First-year players Stefan Giro and Scott Jones will make their debuts, with Michael Apeness, Tommy Sheridan, Taylin Duman, and Shane Kersten the other inclusions. Ballantyne and Johnson are seen to have more to offer, but also face a fight to win back their spot. Meanwhile, Collingwood has been dealt a major injury blow with three big names out of the side which will take on Fremantle on Sunday. Jeremy Howe, Ben Reid and Travis Varcoe will all miss with injury. Howe, who has bone bruising, is a huge loss for the Pies. That opens the door for mature-age recruit Brody Mihocek who will make his AFL debut. The Pies trained on Thursday morning and after coach Nathan Buckley called his men in, they erupted with loud cheers. Players then swamped Mihocek, the 26-year-old selected in last year’s rookie draft. WESTERN Bulldogs veteran Dale Morris will make his remarkable comeback from a partially torn ACL tomorrow. Morris suffered the devastating knee injury in February but put off any thoughts of retirement as he completed a painstaking recovery. Perfect 9 promo 650x90 The gun backman is a huge inclusion for the Bulldogs’ depleted back line as Luke Beveridge‘s men prepare to take on a red-hot Melbourne at Etihad Stadium. Morris, 35, replaces Zaine Cordy who is out with concussion. Tough nut Mitch Honeychurch also comes in for Bailey Dale who has a stress problem in his foot. The young Dogs have lost their past two games and are slipping out of finals contention. They will also attempt to snap a scoring drought after failing to kick a goal in the second half of the loss to Collingwood. Melbourne has made no change. Big Queenslander Wyllie Buzza replaces Esava Ratugolea at Geelong. Ratugolea could miss the rest of the season with a broken ankle in a major blow to the Cats’ key position stocks. Forwards Cory Gregson and Stewart Cameri were dropped in favour of Darcy Fogarty and Lincoln McCarthy for Gary Ablett’s return clash against Gold Coast up north. Michael Hurley returns for the Bombers and Dylan Grimes will make his return at the expense of injured defender Bachar Houli in the Dreamtime game.
