Ratings results for SEN and Eddie McGuire’s The Hot Breakfast

Radio ratings are going into hiatus – something SEN boss Craig Hutchison won’t miss. But how did his station and Eddie McGuire’s Triple M radio show fare in what could be the final ratings survey of the year?

Radio ratings are joining the long list of coronavirus casualties, which will be cause for celebration for many throughout the industry.

The relevance of the figures has declined in recent times, because the way radio is consumed has changed dramatically and, as we know, the spin doctors can have a field day with the data.

Today Survey 2 results are likely to be the last for the year with Commercial Radio Australia declaring they were pausing the ratings because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

SEN boss Craig Hutchison won’t be missing the traditional ratings, and the second survey of the year probably supports his case in raising doubts about their meaning.

After the worst opening in the station’s history in Survey 1, SEN rose across the board in the two month block from February 9 to April 4, despite virtually no sport being played.

The sports station increased 0.7 ratings points overall to 2.3.

The breakfast show hosted by Garry Lyon and Tim Watson rose 0.6 to 2.6.

Gerard Whateley’s morning program hit back hard, up 0.9 to 2.6, while the first full survey for new afternoon host Dwayne Russell clocked him at 1.8.

Another who would be keen to play down the ratings relevance is Collingwood president Eddie McGuire, whose breakfast show on Triple M took another hit.

The Hot Breakfast, hosted by McGuire and new Western Bulldogs director Luke Darcy, dropped 0.6 to 5.2 — the rear of the FM brekkie shows.
