WAS it the biggest upset in AFL history?
Going into Saturday’s clash, Gold Coast had dropped 11 games in a row while the Swans were gunning for a top two spot on the ladder.
The TAB certainly thought it was over before it began, listing the Suns at staggering odds of $17 to win the match, making them the longest priced head-to-head winner since the bookmaker started keeping records in 1995.
GAME RECAP: HOW SWANS, SUNS THRILLER PLAYED OUT
GAME STATS: WHO STOOD UP FOR SUNS, SWANS?
With the Swans leading 40-11 at quarter-time, the head-to-head market had been closed and it was long odds to be reopened. Or so we thought.
The shock loss has created havoc at the top end of the AFL ladder.
WHAT IT MEANS FOR THE LADDER
— After eyeing off a top two spot going into the weekend, the Swans could be a game and percentage outside the top four by the end of the week.
- Geelong moves to seventh with a win over Melbourne, keeping its top four hopes alive.
— Following its big win over North Melbourne, Collingwood is now a game and seven per cent ahead of the Swans.
— With a soft draw to come, Port Adelaide will like its chances of finishing top two.
— GWS may only be two points behind the Swans at the end of this round. The two clubs play each other in a couple of weeks.
- With an away game against Adelaide to come this week, the Demons are in a fight just to make finals.

PUNTING NIGHTMARE
Jamie Tate
YOU can’t say that no one saw Gold Coast’s upset victory coming yesterday.
One lonely, but very happy, TAB punter placed $200 on the Suns pre-match at $17 to defeat Sydney for a $3400 collect.
That person was far happier than the punter who had $5000 on the Swans at $1.03.
Such was the predicted one-sided nature of the SCG clash that the TAB even suspended its head-to-head market at quarter-time with Sydney leading by 29 points.
In terms of pre-match odds it was the biggest upset since the TAB starting fielding on AFL games in 1995.
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?

OTHER END
With Gold Coast’s win over Sydney, Carlton is all but assured of winning the wooden spoon. The Blues are three wins behind the Suns and the Lions.
