AFTER the Giants season defining win over Adelaide their week has got even better with talented defender Jeremy Finlayson re-signing with the club for another two years until the end of the 2020 season.

The 22 year old was dropped after the loss to North Melbourne in Hobart but has been one of the finds of the year playing in defence.

His speed, athleticism and long kicking have been a feature of his game which has gone to a new level in 2018.

Out of contract at the end of the season the kid from the tiny NSW town of Culcairn was happy to have his future settled immediately.

“It’s unreal,” Finlayson told the Daily Telegraph.

“I didn’t think twice about it. Sydney is home for me, I’ve been here six years already. I was going to wait till the end of the year but I thought I would get it out of the way now.”

Finlayson grew up in the tiny NSW town of Culcairn and came to the Giants when he was still in High School six years ago. He has responded well to his axing and was one of the best in the Giants reserves win over the NT Thunder in Darwin on Sunday.

“I just have to work on a few things in the NEAFL and hopefully I can get back in soon, Finlayson said.”

“If I don’t get back in this week I’ll have to play another good one in the NEAFL and then we’ve got the bye and we’re into the back end of the year.”

Finlayson and the Giants NEAFL were flying back from the Northern Territory when the senior team were doing battle with the Crows at Adelaide Oval. It provided a nice surprise on landing in Sydney.

“We had a 2pm departure so we didn’t get to see much of it,” Finlayson said.

“When we switched our phones back on when we landed there was a massive cheer.”

The dashing defender says the win has given the club a massive boost at the halfway mark of the year.

“We are still well and truly in this season,” Finlayson said.

“There are a few teams around the 22 point mark. I’ve got belief we can make the top eight, we will get some players back soon including Toby (Greene), Tom Scully and Zak Williams.”

The cavalry is starting to arrive for GWS with Matt deBoer back this week after missing the last three matches with a hamstring and defender Adam Kennedy set to return to the NEAFL after more than a year out with an ACL injury.

Toby Greene (Foot) is expected to make his return in three weeks following the bye.

Stephen Coniglio will be monitored for concussion after sitting out the last quarter in Adelaide following a knock to the head in the third term.
