BRISBANE recruit Jack Frost admits it stung when Collingwood showed no interest in keeping him at the club.

The 24-year-old key defender played 54 games for the Magpies and at times, looked like the club’s long term full back option.

However, after falling out of favour during 2016 and spending extended periods of time in the VFL, the out of contract Frost knew his time at Collingwood was coming to an end.

“I was out of contract at the Pies and it didn’t look like there was much interest there.

“I do have something to prove.

“Especially if from your old club there was no interest. You obviously take a little bit of that to heart. I’m sure any athlete would.”

Frost signed a three year deal with Brisbane last month and is seen as a key addition in the club’s rebuild.

The Lions want him to fill the void left by retiring key defender Daniel Merrett.

“He (Merrett) was a very experienced player and a bit of a cult figure around here as well,” Frost said.

“It is big shoes to fill but hopefully, down the track at some stage, I can fill the role that he played.

“(My goals) are very closely aligned with the club. It is a fresh start here and it is the same for me. I want to take my game to the next level. There are a lot of ways I can do that and I am just looking forward to that at the moment.”

In joining the Lions, Frost has linked up with former Collingwood teammate Dayne Beams.

Beams is in contention to captain Brisbane next season.

“He was really helpful when he caught wind of the news that I might be coming up here,” Frost said.

“He was the first person to text me about where I’m living and if I want help looking for houses. He has been really helpful.”

BIG WILL: MAGPIES EYE MINSON AS MENTOR

Frost had hip surgery during his off-season break and is still in rehab.

He will be back into full training in January.

“It is a slow process and not what you want when you’re coming to a new club,” he said.

“You want to get involved and get amongst it all and show your leadership qualities. It is a bit harder when you’re sitting on the side watching it all. It is what it is and I’ll be right soon enough.”
