Damien Hardwick says Richmond to have ‘ducking practice’ after loss to GWS

DAMIEN Hardwick wasn’t blaming the umpires but the Richmond coach let his frustration be known after his side lost a thriller against GWS last night.

Asked about a few contentious calls during his side’s two-point loss, Hardwick couldn’t help but hint he wasn’t too pleased with some decisions. “Look, I can’t really comment on the umpiring, but it would be fair to say we’re going to do a bit of ducking practice at training (after) tonight,” the Tigers coach said before laughing. RE-CAP ALL THE SATURDAY ACTION IN OUR BLOG BELOW “The game is incredibly hard to umpire, let’s make no mistake about that. It was a pretty good contest, transition-wise it was up and back and it’s tough. They get a lot right. Sometimes they get some wrong. That’s life. “The game, as I said, I don’t think was dominated by umpiring tonight, I thought we saw a pretty good game of footy that we should be looking at the game and saying ‘well that’s how it should be played’. “Two sides going at it for a long period of time and one side got out the winner.” And Hardwick brushed off the Tigers’ interstate struggles. The premiers are now 0-4 outside Victoria. The Tigers have also lost to Adelaide and Port Adelaide in Adelaide and West Coast in Perth. However, Hardwick wasn’t fazed after a wasteful 10.17 performance in front of goal. “I think that you guys (media) make a bigger deal than we do,” he said post-match. “It is hard to win interstate. That is life. We win a lot at the ‘G. That is our home ground. GWS are a good side. “All I am worried about is the Saints next week on a short break. We look forward to that opportunity. “We expect to play better than we did tonight.” Richmond have one more game outside Victoria this season when they face Gold Coast in Round 21.
