ST KILDA has not been approached to play in China next season, according to Saints chief executive Matt Finnis.
The Herald Sun reported this week the Saints were a contender to play Port Adelaide in Shanghai next season with the Gold Coast expected to be ditched in favour of a Victorian team. ‘NEGLIGENT’: JOBE WATSON WHACKS BOMBERS FREE AGENT BIBLE: WHO IS YOUR CLUB CHASING? “You think about things because there’s a conversation going on about them, but we haven’t been approached by the AFL or the State Government,” Finnis said. “I think it becomes like any new idea or opportunity, you sit down and you kind of look at what are the pros, what are the cons and go through a robust process of looking at it, but what I can say is we haven’t been doing that yet. “ … It’s too early for us to be able to say whether we’d be in agreement or not (to play in China) because it’s not something we’ve considered.” The Saints have been keen to expand on the three games they have played in Wellington, New Zealand from 2013 to 2015 but are awaiting the development of a suitable ground in Auckland. Finnis conceded without a stadium in Auckland, playing in New Zealand wasn’t an option in the short term. He said the club’s much improved stadium deal with Etihad Stadium allowed the club to be more considered with its approach to selling home games. “Clearly as we have an improved Etihad Stadium deal, then the opportunity-cost becomes different to what it used to be,” Finnis said LIVE stream every match of every round of the 2018 Toyota AFL Premiership Season on FOX SPORTS.
