THE AFL will stick with the traditional 23-round season and contentious pre-finals bye week in 2019.

The league had been weighing up moving to a 17-5 model in an attempt to improve fixture equality and late-season dead rubbers but have put off any possible changes for at least another year. The Grand Final timeslot has not yet been confirmed with a decision to be made between a traditional afternoon first bounce or twilight start. The season will kick off with a Thursday night clash on March 21, 2019.
