JACK Viney’s recovery from a foot injury has been “pushed back” with the Demons only “hopeful” he will play again this year.
Viney, 24, has played just seven games this season as he battles bone stress in his foot, and a recent attempt to up his training load did not go as planned. He will start running again next week, but coach Simon Goodwin conceded that a specific return date remained unknown. We’re still really hopeful that he’ll come back and have an impact for us this year.” Goodwin said no return — whether for the home and away season or finals — would be considered until his training has been ramped up with success. “There’s a few steps to get through. The first is to actually get him reloaded,” he said. “Whatever that looks like, we’re still really hopeful that he still contributes for us at some stage this season, whether that’s home and away or later on, who knows? “We’ve got a bit of work to do yet.” Michael Hibberd (quad) was spotted running at training on Thursday but remains at least two weeks away from playing, and while James Harmes appeared troubled at times by the hand that required surgery a fortnight ago, he took part in match simulation drills.
