VETERAN defender Harry Taylor will make his latest return from a foot injury through the VFL on Saturday night as he looks to regain his place in Geelong’s best side.
Taylor battled a plantar fascia injury in the first half of the season before tearing a tendon in the same foot in the Round 16 win over Sydney. The injuries have restricted the usually durable Taylor to just five games this year, with the two-time premiership player possibly facing a race against the clock to regain his fitness for finals. The longest stretch of games the 32-year-old has missed since debuting in 2008 has been two matches but injuries appear to be catching up with him in 2018. The 32-year-old is coming off limited preparation in the past month, only returning to the main training group in the past week and will need to regain his touch through the state league before receiving an AFL call-up. He managed just three appearances before Round 15 and only played two games in his most recent comeback before suffering his latest setback. Geelong coach Chris Scott said recently Taylor was still a part of the Cats’ best 22 but it remains to be seen if he will return up forward or in the backline. He is contracted for 2019 and wants to fulfil his contract next year. Geelong will play Essendon at GMHBA Stadium at 7pm. Meanwhile, Reece Conca has been named for Richmond VFL after dislocating his ankle earlier in the year. Watch every match of every round of the 2018 Toyota AFL Premiership Season. SIGN UP NOW >
