Mitch Starc and Alyssa Healy named new No.1 ticket holders for GWS Giants

Two of Australia’s cricketing superstars are taking their allegiance to a rival code to a whole new level.

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has gone from sharing the field with a former GWS player to becoming the AFL club’s No.1 ticket holder alongside his wife and Australian captain Alyssa Healy.

Both long time Giants’ supporters, the superstar sporting couple declared it was a “proud day” to have their strong connection to the club recognised.

Starc, an all-format star for Australia, plays in the Test team alongside Alex Carey, who was captain of the Giants VFL team the season before their AFL introduction.

Carey didn’t make the list for the club’s inaugural AFL season but that wasn’t enough to sway Starc from supporting the club born in the same area of Sydney he grew up in.

“There’s always a cap or an orange shirt in the bags,” he said.

“I do remember sitting on a domestic flight and giving Alex a barb about (GWS), and he pulled up his orange highlights straight away,” Starc said.

“He speaks very highly of his time at GWS and still has a soft spot for them.

“I grew up in Baulkham Hills and understand how important all sports are to the communities in Western Sydney.

“The Giants journey has been great to follow and we are both very excited to accept the joint number one ticket holder role.”

While the cricket careers often taken them away during the AFL season, Healy, who is missing an upcoming tour of New Zealand to nurse a sore foot, said they rarely miss a game when home.

“Every single time that we’re at home, we’ll try and get out to as many home games as possible,” she said.

“We feel really lucky to have the connection we do with the club … so to make us number one ticket holders was too hard not to pass up.”

GWS CEO, David Matthews said the club was thrilled to have “two of Australia’s most accomplished cricketers” supporting their club.

“They bring an incredible level of passion and success to our club and we are excited to have them on board as we continue to build our presence both in NSW, the ACT, nationally and also globally.

“They will be exceptional ambassadors for the club, and we look forward to their leadership and support as we enter an exciting new chapter.“
