Media Street: Brian Taylor jibe at SEN sparks Twitter feud

Triple M’s notorious schtick for taking the mickey out of opposition boxes has landed them in a Twitter fracas with another station. Get the latest from Media Street here.

A war of words has broken out between Triple M and SEN over a jibe from Brian Taylor during Monday night’s Melbourne-Richmond clash.

Late in the second quarter during the Anzac Day Eve clash Taylor noticed that the SEN box next door had only one caller in it.

Adam White, who had been commentating the game with Gerard Whateley and Nick Dal Santo, was flying solo as the others had to leave to prepare for the halftime McDonalds TV cross which appears on the MCG scoreboard.

It has been a part of the Triple M shtick to take the mickey out of the opposition at times and the late Danny Frawley was one of the best at providing a humorous take on their radio rivals.

The Triple M social media account posted a clip of Taylor looking across at the empty box with the caption: “BT spotted something unusual next door.”

The clip has since been deleted.

“The box next door to us has just one commentator and he’s taping himself,” Taylor informed his co-commentator James Brayshaw. “By himself in the box, I don’t know how he does the whole game.”

SEN video producer Alex Patterson hit back at the sledge on social media.

“Pretty petty this. We put a lot of hard work into our “taping”. Probably no need to comment on another broadcast …” Patterson posted.

He then added an explanation: “Essentially he was hosting the halftime show while the other callers record a video for the big screen, he was solo for like 10 minutes. Anyway, not sure why it needs to be highlighted.

“Our cameras are there to post highlights of the calls up on socials.”

The pairing of White and Whateley was a throw back to the ABC days when they were the national broadcasters main Friday night callers.

They have forged different career paths since but with the highly-regarded White recently leaving RSN, it has opened the door for him to return to football commentary.

DAISY’S CHANGEROOM BAN TEMPORARILY ENDED

There were no issues for Daisy Pearce to fulfil her Channel 7 commitments in the winner’s rooms last night.

The Melbourne AFLW premiership captain was welcomed with open arms after the Demons fought back to defeat Richmond.

It may have been a different story if the result was reversed given the Tigers were the first club to ban Pearce from their rooms in round 1.

Pearce has run into problems juggling her two hats as Channel 7 commentator and Geelong assistant coach with a number of clubs locking her out from their inner sanctum.
