Award-winning journalist Jay Clark has been named the new chief football writer of the Herald Sun.

Over two decades in the industry Clark has developed into one of the game’s most trusted voices.

He first joined News Corp in 2003 and held roles at the Sunday Times in Perth and the Geelong Advertiser before joining the Herald Sun in 2009.

The experienced writer takes over the coveted role of chief football writer following the retirement of Mark Robinson in January.

Herald Sun editor Sam Weir said he was delighted to appoint Clark to the position.

“Jay has established himself as one of Australia’s finest football journalists,” Weir said.

“Being the chief football writer is one of the Herald Sun’s most cherished roles and Jay will build on the legacies created by Mike Sheahan and the recently retired Mark Robinson.

“With an appetite for breaking the biggest stories, Jay will ensure that the Herald Sun continues to set the AFL agenda in this country.”

Clark said he was thrilled to accept the role and understands the importance football plays in the lives of the Herald Sun readers.

“I am honoured to follow in the footsteps of two of the game’s most respected writers, Robbo and Mike,” Clark said.

“We have the best game in the world, which continues to deliver the moments which take our breath away, divide debate, and light up the MCG.

“The excellent team at the Herald Sun will continue to deliver the big breaking stories and cover our biggest sporting stars with the passion and insight you trust.”
