BRIAN Lake helped punters land a long priced Norm Smith betting plunge.

“Lake was backed from $101 into $81 including one bet of $1000 at $101 seeing that punter pocket $101,000,” TAB’s Adam Hamilton said.

“By half-time Lake had firmed to $26 and by three quarter-time he was into $7,” Hamilton said.

One Frankston South man also had a four figure collect on Lake after backing him at $101, known as ‘The Egg’ - it topped a big week for him after he welcomed his first son into the world.

“We named him William but I’m trying to convince the wife to change his name to Brian,” Egg said.

JACK Gunston was the big firmer in Norm Smith markets, after opening at $41 he was into $2.50 when markets were suspended at the start of the final term.

FIRST GOAL

JACK Gunston got punters off to the best possible start on Grand Final day by kicking the first goal.

“We paid out over $425,000 on Gunston who was the best backed player and was one of five players to start at $9,” TAB’s Adam Hamilton said.

Gunston also kicked the first goal of the second quarter.

BROWN AND GOLD

Hawthorn opened favourite to win the 2013 flag when TAB first released markets before last year's Grand Final.

“They were $3.50 but drifted to $4 before they went down to the Swans but that was the best price they were all season,”

Hawthorn was heavily backed yesterday firming from $1.65 into $1.60 with Fremantle starting at $2.40.

At half-time the Hawks were into $1.20 and were $1.40 at the start of the final term.

Hawthorn is the $4.50 favourite to win the premiership again next year.

“There has already been several bets, including $3000 on Carlton at $21 who firmed into $17, with one punter even parting with $100 on Melbourne at $501," he said.
