Confronting footage has emerged of a bloody and beaten Thomas Washbrook, the man assaulted by Richmond Tigers star Noah Balta.
The video, obtained by Seven News, shows Washbrook with a swollen eye and a nasty-looking forehead gash oozing blood down the side of his face.
He can be heard saying, “Look at the big cut on my head.”
“I came out for a good night... hang out with some 18-year-olds and I get f******* flogged the f*** out for no reason once again.”
“Happens to the big bloke every time,” the 27-year-old continues, “but it is what it is.”
Washbrook has now started civil proceedings seeking compensation for psychiatric distress, with his lawyer, John Suta, claiming that his mental health is suffering.
“A number of injuries are related to psychiatric impairment as a consequence directly attributable to the assault,” he claimed.
“That includes nervousness, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder.”
Richmond Tigers star Balta pleaded guilty to a single charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Corowa Local Court last month, following the assault in the NSW-Victoria border town of Mulwala on December 30 last year.
He remains on bail and is due to be sentenced on March 27.
Balta also received a four-match ban as a result of the assault, with Richmond chief executive Shane Dunne saying in a statement at the time, “Noah deeply regrets being involved in the incident.”
“He has assisted the NSW Police in their investigation and he is keen to have the matter concluded as soon as possible.”
